No current requirement
NoteNo universal DPOC voter-registration requirement. However, 2025 ch. 39 art. 8 (eff. Jan 1, 2026) amended AVR statute so DVS only transmits voter registration when citizenship-affirming documentation was shown; voter registration applications are 'deficient' without POC and election judges must request it. Applies to AVR/DVS pathway, not all registration methods. Ballotpedia (Feb 2026) does not list MN among DPOC states.

What to Do Now

  1. 1Check if you have one of the accepted documents (passport, birth certificate, naturalization certificate)
  2. 2If your name has changed, get a passport in your current legal name
  3. 3Order your birth certificate now if you don't have one
  4. 4Verify your voter registration is current
  5. 5Keep originals safe - the SAVE Act requires originals, not photocopies
